Speckyboy.com – Lessons Learned From an Experienced Freelancer

Lessons Learned From an Experienced Freelancer

I had the pleasure to recently write for speckyboy.com, which is an awesome website devoted to designers, freelancers, and more. In the article, I write about some of the things I’ve learned over the course of becoming a freelancer as well as the process of continuing to grow as a freelancer. In my opinion, some truths need to be told to aspiring designes/freelancers before they dive in. I do my best in the article to help them avoid some of the mistakes and wrong turns I made in the past. It’s always said that you have to fail in order to succeed. This is a great example! Have a read and let me know what you think. Please tweet, email, post, like, do whatever you can with it!

New Site Launch – traviswhitecreative.com

travis white creative

Travis White is a good friend of mine who collaborated on a lot of projects in our time together while obtaining our BFA’s. He just recently launched his new website which can be found at traviswhitecreative.com. I have always been a fan of his style when it comes to design. His process overall is simple but focused and thoroughly developed. I consider him an idea man. He really thinks when it comes to being different than most designers you come across. I definitely recommend him for any upcoming graphic design projects you may need. Again, visit his site at traviswhitecreative.com and contact him directly. Tell him Andy from justalever.com sent ya!

Another year down

fireworks

As 2012 comes to an end I look back on a lot that has happened. My dream of becoming a fulltime freelancer is proving to be a success. More and more job opportunities are coming my way and many are coming without any work on my end which is always awesome. Many people turn their nose up to being a freelancer and working from home or something similar. I am yet another example to prove the point that you can make your own way and not be forced to work the 9-5 everyday and not be happy. It takes a lot of work and a lot of hours but so far I am please with the way things are going. For the 2013 I plan on taking things to the next level and firstly launch an all new justalever.com then hopefully gain new clients, earn more,  possibly extend my company by hiring on contracted employees, and seek out my own studio space. There’s no telling what will happen but here’s to the new year! For anyone reading my blog I appreciate your support and hope you continue to follow my progress.

Cheers

Another Great Site To Display Your Work as a Designer

Behance.net

There has been an uprising of sites which allow you to upload pieces of your design work and get user feedback. Sites such as Dribbble.com, Forrst.com, Coroflot.com, and more…Behance.net has added some of the greatest features over the years to their site to allow designers or developers a nice home to display their work if they for example don’t have their own private website. A couple years back Behance simply didn’t impress me. Sure you could upload your work but for me it seemed like a site to host your work on if you already didn’t know how to build your own website. Now that I’ve revisited Behance.net I take back all my thoughts.

Uploading

The process of uploading work is seamless and almost effortless. Some images need to be set at a certain size but other than than you just upload jpegs, or pngs or your work, enter a little information about the project and your’re golden.

Projects Your Currently Working On

There’s a new feature which is similar to Dribbble.com on Behance.net that allows you to upload screenshots of what you are currently working on rather than completed projects. This allows the website to be more of a social platform too as users can comment or like each others art.

Design

Overall I’m in love with the user interface. It’s simple and easy to use which is the most important thing on a website. The style is modern and flowing which will stand with time.

Behance.net now has a new follower..ME! Go make your own profile today. View my profile @ behance.net/justalever.
